An
interactive session with Ashok Minda – Group CEO, Spark Minda, Ashok Minda
Group was organised for the members of ACMA - Young Business Leaders’ Forum on
August 11,2014 at Minda Management Services Limited, Gurgaon.
According
to a press release, the objective behind the forum was to groom young business
leaders from auto component industry through sharing of experiences for meeting
challenges in establishing and running a successful family owned business with
special focus on succession planning.
The
session was primarily a platform for sharing of experience of Ashok Minda
during his journey of building up the Spark Minda Group. The session was
distributed into five major phases wherein the discussion initiated with
focusing on the legacy of Spark Minda Group (erstwhile Minda Group); major
milestones of the organisation; challenges and handicaps faced during
implementation of growth plans; succession planning for the group followed by
Minda’s expectations from the automotive industry and future expansion plans of
the Group. During the discussion, the participants were also shown the famous
book – ‘The Magic of Thinking Big’ which Minda considered the source of
constant motivation for him.
The
session was quite enlightening for all and some very crucial queries were
raised by the participating members. Some of the most critical questions
included those on deciding factors for selection of companies for joint
ventures and acquisitions, Minda’s take on the current aftermarket scenario,
maintaining organisation’s stability during lack of important resources,
arranging of financial resources and handling the organisation during turbulent
times, selection of the right advisor for the organisation and its selection
process besides other queries.
The
session was attended by many auto-components companies with around 35
participants who included Executive Directors from Steelbird Auto Components,
PPAP Automotive Limited, Dorset KABA, Makino Auto Industries, Omax Autos
Limited, Oswal Castings Private Limited, AGRIM Tools (P) Limited and Victora
Tool Engineering Private Limited among many others aspiring minds. Apart
from Ashok Minda, members of management
team from Spark Minda Group who contributed
to this half day session included N K Taneja, Sanjay Thapar, D C Sharma and
Lalitendu Samantha who shared their learnings and experiences during the growth
of the Group.
