An
economic and business delegation from Thuringia, a federal State of Germany,
visited the Volkswagen India plant in Chakan near Pune in the state of
Maharashtra in Central India. Headed by
Uwe Höhn, Thuringian Minister for Economy, Labour and Technology, the
delegation included official members of the Thuringian Government and several
top Managers of Thuringian companies. The main aim of the delegation is to
improve ties between Thuringian companies and their Indian counterparts,
explore new opportunities for collaborations and for further extending economic
relations. Höhn along with the delegation of over 25 members witnessed several
advanced automotive manufacturing processes in the Body Shop and Assembly Shop
of the Volkswagen Pune Plant.
The
delegation is visiting New Delhi, Pune and Bengaluru from April 22to to 27,
2014.
The
Volkswagen Pune Plant in Chakan is the biggest investment of a German car
manufacturer in India so far. Since 2007, Volkswagen has invested approximately
700 million Euro(Rs 5882 crore approximately) in the manufacturing facility in
Chakan where currently the Volkswagen Polo and Vento models and the Skoda Rapid
model are being manufactured. In 2013, more than 100,000 cars were manufactured
at this facility for the domestic market as well as for exports to more than 32
countries across three continents.
At
the production facility of Volkswagen in Chakan, the delegates witnessed German
engineering, made by Volkswagen in India. The delegation was informed about the
various manufacturing processes some of which are unique in India. The visitors
were highly impressed with the multi-brand production on the same manufacturing
line and the international standards of quality followed at this facility.
