The
new Tata Revotron 1.2T petrol engine recently launched in the 2014 Tata Zest,
owes its turbo technology to Honeywell Turbo Technologies. The company has
partnered with Tata Motors to develop their first ever petrol turbocharged
engine. The engine provides some great power and torque and a first-in-segment
multi-drive mode.
All
this was made possible by Honeywell’s engineering teams in Pune and
Bangalore.
The
Revotron 1.2T features Honeywell’s second generation petrol turbo technology,
which incorporates the latest advances in aerodynamics and bearing systems, and
delivers significantly improved fuel economy and driving performance in a 30
per cent smaller space, lowering the overall system complexity and cost, said a
press release from Honeywell.
Milind
Godbole, managing director, Honeywell Turbo Technologies, India said the
company is proud to have met the challenge and helped Tata successfully launch
its new petrol engine in the new Zest.
Downsized
petrol turbocharged vehicles deliver up to 20pc better fuel-economy and better
torque than larger non-turbocharged engines with similar power output – and can
be more fun to drive without sacrificing performance.
Honeywell
expects petrol applications will likely drive the rapid adoption of performance
enhancing turbocharger technologies in India, just as they are in Europe given
that both markets already have very strong turbo diesel penetration above 50pc.
In the meantime, the company continues to launch on average100 new applications
every year with some 500 in its development pipeline while working with nearly
every major auto manufacturer in the world.
