While
the month of May 2019 registered an 18-year low in terms of domestic sales for
passenger vehicles (PV), the disturbing factor is that each and
every of the 17 PV player recorded a negative growth. Such is the extent of
degrowth that it did not spare a single player in this segment. The overall PV
segment posted a negative growth of -20.55 per cent with sales of 2,39,347
units for the month of May 2019 for domestic sales. The sales figures were released
by the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM).

Coming
to two-wheelers, of the 13 players who provide their data to SIAM, as many as 8
recorded negative domestic sales in May 2019, while four recorded a positive
growth. One company, UM Lohia Two Wheelers Pvt Ltd recorded zero sales. This
segment recorded a negative growth of -6.73 per cent for May 2019, with total
sales of 1,726,206 units.

the 12 players in the commercial vehicles segment, around six player recorded
negative growth, five positive and one scored a duck. The company that scored
zero sales was JBM Auto. The commercial vehicles segment saw a negative growth of
-10.02 per cent with total domestic sales of 68,847 units in May 2019.
