A few companies have been able to buck the trend and
register positive domestic sales in the month of February 2019. Prominent among
them are Mahindra & Mahindra with 26106 units sold in the month and
recording a growth of 16.86pc, Honda Cars India recording sales of 13,527 units
with a growth of 16.11 pc and Maruti Suzuki, recording sales of 136,912 units
with a growth of 0.19pc.
Strange, but sadly true is the fact that though India has
been talking about electric mobility and e-mobility being the topic of
discussion at every other seminar, the sales of electric vehicles from the only
electric car manufacturer in the country, Mahindra Electric Mobility are
dismal. Mahindra has been manufacturing the Mahindra e2o for a very long time
now but according to the SIAM data, only 3 vehicles were sold in February 2019
and that too registered a negative growth of – (minus) 94.00pc.
TWO WHEELERS
Several two wheelers too witnessed negative growth in
domestic sales in the month of February 2019. Of the 13 two-wheeler manufacturers
on the SIAM list, around seven witnessed negative growth in domestic sales.
