The NATRiP project was
approved by cabinet committee on economic affairs (CCEA) in July 2005. Subsequently,
ICAT was set up in 2006 and is the first of the new world class centres established
under NATRiP. The Government of India has recognised ICAT as one of the
accredited 'Type Approval and Homologation' agencies in India under Central
Motor Vehicle Rules (CMVR) 126.
ICAT has also been recognised as Scientific
and Industrial Research Organization (SIRO) from the Department of Scientific
and Industrial Research (DSIR), besides being recognised by BIS for Tyre
Testing and Safety Glasses and by Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) for
Emission and Noise testing of Generator Sets.
Ministry of Heavy Industries
& Public Enterprises (MoHI & PE) Anant G Geete inaugurated the facilities in the presence
of Vishwajit Sahay, Joint Secretary, Department
of Heavy industry, Abhay Damle, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Road Transport
& Highways, Kenichi Ayukawa, MD & CEO, Maruti Suzuki India and Ms Neeti
Sarkar, CEO, NATRiP,
Dinesh Tyagi, Director, ICAT along
with various dignitaries from the Indian automotive industry was present for
the inauguration. With a capital investment of over Rs 1100 crore, ICAT
facilities are spread over eight acres at ICAT Centre-I and over 46.6 acres of land
at ICAT Centre-II. The centre is rendering valuable services to the automotive
industry in the country in a major way.
ICAT has emerged as a
comprehensive technical partner of the automotive industry and currently
undertakes the following major activities:
1. Homologation and Certification as per Indian regulations.
2.Testing as per various Indian and global regulations.
3.Developmental Projects
4.Automotive R&D Projects
